1864 BBC4 9.00pm and part 2 at 10.00 Saturday May 16. A new drama series, from the makers of The Killing and Borgen and inspired by two books by Tom Buk-Swienty, begins with 2 episodes based around the Second Schleswig War fought between Denmark, then a superpower, and power hungry Prussia (Germany and Austria). It was a war that resulted in more than 5,000 Danish deaths and the loss of one-third of Danish territory and, for the Danes, a loss of innocence. It was a war that traumatized the country so deeply it resulted in long-term embrace of neutrality and an abandonment of any military stratagem, right up to the time the Nazis invaded with almost no resistance.
It starts as a father returns home, from the three-year war with Prussia, to his two sons on the South Funen archipelago and centres on the story of the two brothers who then to war, and of the young woman who loves them both.
Locations: The war against Prussia took place in South Jutland at Dybbøl around 6 km west of Sønderborg. Today there is a national memorial and museum, about the Battle of Dybbøl. Not far from the museum is Dybbøl Mill, a landmark of the war and also featured in the series. The nature scenes from the series are filmed in Svanninge Bakker (hills) on South Funen. On this location, a set depicting the two brothers' childhood home has been build and I believe is to remain as an exhibit.
Also scenes were shot at Hagenskov Gods near Assens, Egebjerggård on North Funen, and Hvidklide Gods near Svendborg. The three manors in the series are not open for public visits and can only be viewed from the outside.

In the first episode the airline tries to tempt people to spend more to fly, with a restaurant, a lounge, restaurant, spa and champagne bar reserved for first-class ticket holders at London Heathrow's Terminal 5. BA's first A380, the world's biggest passenger plane, begins service, as 18 anxious new recruits embark on a six-week cabin crew training course.
